Bullshit arguments. I smoked pot before, not even a full joint(!), and I was knocked out. Had I driven a car then I would’ve most likely been involved in a serious accident. If I would’ve been able to start it in the first place.
I also remember me fearing a heart attack, because my heart was pounding like HELL because of the pot. I really thought I was going to die. And then I puked my body out. This happened twice, but I’ve learned from my mistakes and shall never smoke pot again.
However, I’ve never feared of dieing when I’m drinking alcohol. Even after 10 beers I can drive pretty well and I still know what’s going on. For me, when I smoke one joint, the night is over, but with beer I can go on and on and on.

I smoked pot for ten years and was hopelessly addicted. It had sever detriments to my mental health. At first it wasn’t a dangerous thing and only when it was too late did I realise what it was actually doing to me. I know many people who have had the same problem. Alcohol is a much safer alternative to pot, no matter what you believe. Some people can smoke it and be fine, but most will come out the other end a lot worse for wear. Addicted to cannabis? I am currently a heavy smoker, lets put it in the official terms, joint years which is how much pot you smoke a day divided into joints multiplied by the number of days throughout the year you smoke. Since i smoke at least 6 joints everyday for the past two years ive smoked 2190 joints minus the 180 joints for the month i quit (cold turkey) in order to pass a drug test so i could get a job. I’d assume that you just have an addictive personality or you like people that gain 200 pounds from eating mcdonalds morning noon and night, you have no self control. I’ve made worse decisions regaurding my obsession with videogames than i have about cannabis. The point is, people shouldn’t drive impaired at all, and people should take responsibilty for their own vices and actions. I dont need big brother to tell me what i can and cant consume, i can pickle my brain with alcohol but im not allowed to even dry out the mushrooms that legally grow all around my area, and its people like you who are ignorant and can’t account for their own actions that bring the babysitter down on all of us.
Your argument, though based out of compassion, is infringing on liberties of others. It is impossible to be addicted to cannabis as is the fashion of tobacco or heroin or truly “detrimental” drugs, so your hopeless addiction loses sympathy when it was, more likely, an issue of your self-control. I do agree that it can be an issue for some people as that will happen with a drug but he, we as a cannabis community, must have the right to express the truths about marijuana. You should better check your facts before you make unfounded arguments.
There is absolutely NO research stating that marijuana is physically addicting that comes from a reliable source. Most such research on the addictive potential of marijuana states that it actually has no physical addiction whatsoever. Yes, it is a matter of biochemistry, but not in the way that you described it.
However, you are correct in saying that it has a mental addiction factor to it. That is a matter of human psychology. If you get used to something (it doesn’t even have to be an ingested substance), be it eating an orange every morning, kissing your wife before you leave for work, or patting the dog on the head as you walk out the door, then when these things do not occur you suffer mental anguish from it. Because your routine has changed you suffer mental issues.
Therefore, it is intelligent to not make smoking marijuana routine. Just as drinking shouldn’t be a routine thing, marijuana shouldn’t be either, just as anything else that impairs your judgment shouldn’t be. You should at least be a clearly thinking, normal individual most of the time. But I do believe that you have the right to ingest/inhale a substance once in a while, to relax or have fun or whatever, that doesn’t cause you harm. I believe in the movement that wants to sell marijuana to adults over 18 years old, just like tobacco, since it has been shown in many studies that marijuana is much less dangerous than tobacco, although if it were mass produced i’m not sure anymore, since the amount of chemicals companies would put into it to fertilize etc would probably cause health problems….
Basically, my viewpoint is that the government needs to regulate harmful drugs. Cocaine, heroin, crack, meth, these have all been shown to be extremely dangerous. However marijuana has not. Neither has ecstasy (in pure form of course). Psychedelic mushrooms containing psilocybin have actually proven to be helpful in studies with Alzheimers and certain other diseases, and psychological studies on “shroom” eaters have shown that they are generally much more happy people, even 6 months after taking the mushrooms. Just fyi, mushrooms are considered a Schedule III drug (the harshest classification), meaning they are “extremely harmful” and “cause extensive damage” to you. However there are no studies to back it up.
All I want is the truth from my government. If you can prove a drug is really bad for you, fine, outlaw it. But don’t outlaw things that you have no proof if they’re bad or not. And don’t be hypocritical. Tobacco is extremely bad for you and it is still legal. It causes many deaths and cancer. So tell me why tobacco isn’t considered a Schedule III drug?

I love smoking weed and drinking. But to be honest, drinking has left me with experiences I regret a lot.

Okay, anyone that doesn’t already know the dangers of alchohol is a complete idiot. Herb smoking aside, alchohol has taken the lives of several of my personal friends. The reason alchohol is compared to Marijuanna is because there seems to be no reason for pot to be illegal. There is not one good reason, NOT ONE. That is a fact. You don’t have to be a scientist of figure it out. People just don’t take responsibility for their own actions. People compare Marijuana and Alcohol because they produce slightly similiar effects but one is legal and the other is not. Tobacco and Marijuana are compared because they are both burned and inhaled but the legality issue again. I agree Marijuana, Alcohol, and Tobacco are all harmful in there own seprate ways. I have a personal belief that a law should not do more harm to society then what the law is against. That being said just look at the deaths last year for Alcohol and Tobacco. I have known and still know people who have died or are the final years of there lives because of these two. Now look at all of history and try to find 1 case that Marijuana caused the death of someone. Now look into the number of non-violent offenders that are in jail because of Marijuana. Jails are full and guess what rapeist, murderers, and other violent offenders are being let out early because theres little room for them. Also for all the people who put “i’m addicted to marijuana so you shouldn’t be telling people to make it legal” should suck a big fat one. It is your fault you became addicted, marijuana is not physically addictive it is only habitly addicting but any thing you do that has a pleasureable outcome in the end is habitly addicting ex. masterbating, eating, exerciseing, video games, ect. At best that argument should empasize the point you should know yourself, know your limits, and learn some damn self control.

The government gave power to the thugs when they took supply from themselves and let the criminals take control. But now we got a choice it is time for the people to take control and a simple way to start that is change the language of the War on Drugs. Drugs is a blanket term so stop using it altogether and be specific when your talking about a certain substance. Say RE-legalize marijuana because some racist in the 1930s made it illegal and there was a confusion over marijauna and hemp back then, people didn’t realise there the same. The US imports large amounts of “hemp” which is marijuana but those strains are grown for there plant material and not the THC content. “HEMP FOR VICTORY” look it up your government made a movie about it.

Whilst these facts are true, I find alcohol more enjoyable. Any form of substance abuse is bad no matter what the effects, and the bad points of consuming any substance come from overindulgence. The way this article is written, it seems that alcohol consumption WILL result in fights/passing out/waking up in vomit/drunk driving. Really all pot smokers want is it to be legalized, they make the case that pot is safer than alcohol mainly to show there is no reason pot is illegal. And thats why cactus you points dont make sense. There is no reason pot should be illegal. In most scientific cases pot proves safer then alcohol, but all that shows is that if alcohol is legal why isn’t pot. There is no reason the U.S. can back not legalizing pot when alcohol is legal. As many people trying to prove the harmful effects of pot say as cactus has that addiction is not based on what your addicted to but how you use it. Then you cant list that as a reason to keep it illegal. Because your saying pot is as addictive, pot smokers dont say alcohol should be illegal, all they want is pot to be legal, who cares what you choose to do, if you want to drink drink, if you want to smoke smoke, but dont tell other people they cant drink or smoke, people who smoke know it is good to smoke, but thats how they want to live their life, they aren’t hurting anyone else. Been smoking for almost 6 years now, Im not a stupid idiot when Im stoned. Still pretty much the same, sometimes its hard to get words out but I would not go as far as to say that Im a stupid idiot. And mron, you went through what is called being high. You got high and didnt know what to expect, so you “freaked out.” It happens to many beginner smokers, it normally happens when you get “too high.” I saw it happen to one of my friends, and we laughed about it after. He kept asking people to feel his chest cause he thought his heart was going to soar out of his chest. We got him to calm down when felt everyone elses chest and their hearts were beating exactly the same as his.

I read all these fucking comments and although i worship weed; I know it has some consequences. The truth is and everyone hear me out that we are just naturally stupid, not saying its a bad thing because a lot of time stupid is funny. Though stupidity can also harsh consequences such as courts and diversion.
I would like to say that POT should be legalized because of the proof in multiply college and research facilities that canniboids are in fact helpful to a normal human being. But for an irregular human being with a different chemical structure it can have side effects. along the line of weed death is not one of those side effect unlike almost every drug in the world even caffeine. Valium will be one of my examples because my friend died from just one pill. I talked to her family and they explained what the doctor had said to them. Though the pill was a very small dose she had reacted horrifically until she died. So as far as its effect on other people i agree.

Funny how you people started off arguing about whether pot is bad for you or not, and if it is, if it’s worse than booze.. and somehow connected that argument to the question of whether or not it should be legalized. As a legal matter, who the fuck cares if it is harmful to the individual using it? It is that individual’s responsibility to make the decision to use a substance or not, not the government’s. The thing is, if it has ill effects that pose a the threat of burdening our health care system, it is already burdening it! .. There will be no more and no fewer potheads than we already have. The law does not stop people from smoking weed, it just makes it a bit more of a hassle. If someone wants to smoke weed, they’re gonna do it. So if they haven’t done it already, they’re not going to start now just because they’re allowed to.
